New Phone: HTC Touch2, HTC Touch2 vs HTC Tattoo
HTC announced a new phone called the HTC Touch2. This is a successor to the HTC Touch and is meant to target a similar market. It is a relatively inexpensive phone and has almost identical specs to the HTC Tattoo we mentioned recently. If you torn now between which one to choose, well I bet I can split anyone deciding between the HTC Touch2 and the HTC Tattoo really quickly with one of its features; the Touch2 runs on Windows Mobile and the Tattoo runs on Android. So it’s really a choice between OS’s.
I thought it was interesting that HTC made two almost identical phones, released them almost simultaneously, and gave them two different OS’s (which happen to be the only 2 OS’s HTC carries. At first I wondered if this was going to become a pattern, will we see all new phones from them have an Android and a Windows Mobile version? But then I though, well maybe this is their way of testing which OS they should spend more time on…
“So let’s see which one sells more and then maybe focus more on that OS…” but then again, keep in mind that these phones are not considered higher end phones, these are meant to bring HTC devices to the masses with a goal of under $100 with contract price and a $300-$400 no contract price instead of their usual $500-$700 price tag. So the people choosing these phones are not the ones usually geared towards Windows Mobile in the first place, so it’ll be interesting to see, how this plays out.

Well.. HTC Tattoo wins from the gate cause of the Android Sense UI… So that’s a no brainer…
I was planning on getting a HTC Tattoo for everybody in my plan x3-4… But now I won’t…
A non-WinMob with a resistive 2.8-inch TFT-LCD touch-sensitive screen with 240×320 QVGA resolution is garbage to me… Not because of the 2.8 size of the screen but because of the QVGA + Resistive combination…
Here is a German vid of it…
It’s a freaking WiMo phone… Sucks… Hope they upgrade that screen by the time it makes it to the US.
It seems the price of the Moto Cliq will make the HTC Tattoo a mistake by HTC.. Unless they match the screen quality…
I have learned a wealth of knowledge over the last 3 weeks trying various smart phones offered by T-mobile…
Here’s what I have have learned. Android OS is going to be the leader of the mobile OS world. That is as long as they keep it open source.
3 weeks ago I switched from Verizon to the new G1 from T-mobile. I had issues with the call clarity so I came back and switched to the MyTouch. Being used to the keyboard, didn’t like the all touch setup, and the call quality was the same as the G1.
So I brought that phone back and yesterday got the Touch Pro 2.
Call quality is the same… However this is a great phone. That is the phone! The OS it runs on is now the reason why I wil be taking this phone back. Microsoft GARBAGE!
Android just blows MS away. I know they have met there match. Android is going to take them down!
Since I am under a new contract with T-Mobile I am going to try and get them to agree to giving me a Motorola Cliq when they are released or I will cancel my entire contract…
With the Android open source system on a phone like the Moto Cliq… well let me tell you, I’m going to buy stock in Motorola.
My only concern is that Motorola makes it impossible or very difficult to root the phone with their custom UI on the Android platform. (sort of like how HP’s come with their version of Windows) That would be a move that I hope Motorola realizes would be like shooting themselves in the foot…
