Nokia N900 on T-Mobile US 3G Speed Test
So someone who was lucky enough to get a N900 from 2009 Maemo Summit in Amsterdam came back to the States with it and decided to do a little speed test to see how the 1700mhz T-Mobile 3G frequency is used on the little bugger.
Here were his results:
So 2260 kbps down and 340kbps up. That’s pretty damn quick (especially considering T-Mobile’s current 3G data cap is only 3200 mbps, that means that it is getting really close to that cap).
To put that in perspective, iPhone 3GS which can use AT&T’s new 7200 kbps 3G data, only gets to about 1000kbps (in tests I’ve done here in South Florida, perhaps yours vary, regardless I doubt your getting over 2260 kbps…) and I used a Sprint Hero in one of their stores yesterday and did a speed test and only got 700 kbps down.
Wow… this thing needs to be released already. You can bet I will be doing some serious testing of this phone soon as I can get my hands on one. If anyone finds a store that actually has them in stock (instead of telling us, “It come this week, promise I do”), let me know and I’ll get to work 🙂
PS. Know what else is kinda cool? That screen shot is from the actual phone. Its cool that the phone can goto a flash intensive site like speedtest.net and run it perfectly like a computer.  Try that on your iPhone browser…

one of my co-workers mentioned that they are selling them already in the NYC nokia store, I have to double check that information, but I rather wait till tmo releases them im sure they will atleass $200 cheaper compared to the price nokia is selling it for.

Too be honest I personally wouldn’t wait since there won’t be much of a price difference and by the time T-Mobile gets it, there will be a new phone out lol. Go read the long as comment I wrote under the N900 coming to TMobile US post.

I saw the post, and he clearly says a “trial unit” so that explains why that guy has one.
And I just called the NYC Store, “We do not know when the N900 will be released, probably within the next month”. So no N900 in their store…
Actually, they do have a N900 demo unit at the store. ScottishSkyedance over at HoFo posted pictures of a demo unit at the store.

This is a demo unit though. Designated by not having “N900” on the front of the display. So it’s not being sold there, but there is a demo unit to play with at the NYC store.
Actually, while that is FAST, I have seen speeds almost equal to that in St Louis, MO on AT&T. On my plain ole iPhone 3G I can easily hit 1500 kbps on a slow day and on a good day I can hit 2000 tops. Also, EvDo has traditionally lower speeds than WCDMA (GSM 3G), so don’t bash it for that lol.
maybe speeds are so high because tmobile 3g is not in the masses yet? just a thought. if any company is testing there 3g with nobody really on it of course you will get blazing speeds. i want to see this again when 3g really matters for Tmobile
I ran that test on my G1 SUUUUUUCKED in ny. and it said i was in kansas
lol buying it @ nokia store you get all the full power of the n900. in t-mobile they will definitely take away a lot of features like flash player and for n900 as a modem,
well, i have no iPhone … i have HTC HERO in my hands, and tried that site speedtest.net ….
and you know what ? … IT WORKS 🙂 … not so fast as on desktop computer, but FLASH is flashing better than i expected 🙂
and in addition, FLASH on htc hero is antialiased, nokia (it looks like) isnt
Ok, so i have my N900 for 4 days now, and i’m getting 2.24 mbps or so dl, and uploads of just over 1 mbps. I’m impressed because i live 40 minutes from nyc, and at home i have verizon dsl. My home plan is 3 mbps download and 756 kbps upload. At home speed test on my laptop is always 2.86 mbps d/l and 724 kbps upload.
I have a prepaid plan with tmobile usa with unlimited data. With the N900 i didn’t have to change my plan, and getting those speeds. Loving my N900 🙂
