NVIDIA Unveils New “DirectStylus” Capabilities for Tegra 4 Tablets
Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang took to this week’s Computex to show off its latest tech. The company has developed a software-based pressure sensitive display that uses a normal non-digitizer stylus to draw on a device. The result: Users can write on the screen using a simple passive pen and its opposite end can be used like an eraser, whose unique touch pattern can be differentiated from drawing strokes. The science behind the tech centers in Nvidia’s Prism display, originally introduced with the Tegra 3. Essentially, Prism reads the screen and optimizes pixels and brightness to preserve battery life. In regards to the Tegra 4, Nvidia uses a similar technique to detect how an ordinary capacitive stylus interacts with the screen.
Nvidia promised that the software will be made available to all Tegra 4 devices, which means you will not need the Wacom-powered S Pen or similar styli for drawing.
