Paranoid Android’s Halo Multi-Tasking Goes Open Source
We were first introduced to Paranoid Android’s in-app pop-up window multitasking a few months ago, and now it appears that the team is ready to release the final product.
The feature, dubbed HALO, combines the concept behind Samsung’s Multi Window and FaceBook’s Chat Heads into one sleek multi tasking interface. The feature is activated from the notification tray, and places an icon (or halo) on the display. This can be moved around in the same way like Chat Heads, or ignored by double-tapping and dragging it towards the red X at the top. Users can swipe sideways from the halo to display a series of white lines and text bubbles that match and highlight the notifications in the status bar. The background app will run while you interact with the foreground app, and to exit out of the pop-up window, simply tap outside of it.
Besides the obvious cool features of Halo, what we’re most excited about is that Paranoid Android has decided to make HALO open source so everyone can get a piece of the action. If you want to see Halo in action, then check out the demo video below. The video does a great job of showing how to use Halo and what can be done with it.
