Phonebloks Lego-Like Device Allows You To Interchange Single Components Of A Smartphone
When a smartphone becomes inoperable, we typically resign to tossing it in a junk drawer and buying a new one. What consumers may not realize is that the death of the device is mostly likely due to a single component. Maybe the processor blew or the display died. Regardless of the component, if the smartphone was comprised of interchangeable blocks (think Lego here), then maybe you could simply fix the isolated issue and not have to toss the entire phone.
Sounds like a good idea right? Well, a company called Phonebloks thinks so and has designed a concept phone that makes each component into a block. These blocks connect to a “base” and the user can even upgrade the blocks depending on how you want to use your phone. For example, if you don’t need a camera block to take selfies, then you could switch it out for a larger battery block.
While the concept has gained attention, Phonebloks is still in need of support to get this idea off the ground.
To support the idea, all you have to do is sign up through the service Thunderclap. Through a coordinated effort on their part, they will blast the entire social media world with a demand for Phonebloks. The goal here is that CEOs, entrepreneurs and basically anybody with enough money will want to support this idea if they see enough demand for it.
You may not be particularly wild about the design, but you have to admit the concept is one to ponder about. To see Phonebloks in action, check out the demo video below or jump to the source for more information.
