How to Place Icons Anywhere on Your Home Screen in iOS 7 (Video)

One of the strange limitations of iOS is the restriction on where you can put your app icons on the home screen. As soon as you put an icon on the home screen, it has to fall behind the last icon on that page. You can move it around on that page but it has to always keep that un-breaking chain of icons intact. Thanks to being jailbroken and a simple little tweak called Gridlock, that no longer has to be the case.

After installing Gridlock, you’ll have the ability to put icons anywhere on the home screen. Here’s how to install it and use it.

I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad

To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.4). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.

*Don’t be scared, it’s easy to unjailbreak your device.

II. Install Gridlock

1. Open Cydia.

2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.

3. Type in Gridlock.

4. Tap on Gridlock when it shows up.

5. Tap Purchase at the top right and follow the prompts to login and purchase using your preferred method.

6. Tap Close when you’ve paid.

7. Tap Install where Purchase used to be.

8. Tap Restart.

III. Use Gridlock

1. No configuration necessary. Simply hold down on any icon until it wiggles and move it where ever you want on the screen without it springing behind the last app on that page.

  1. Yes Gridlock is great! The problem is my jailbroken iphone 4 running on IOS 5 froze when I I added Lockdown Pro. I had to restore my iphone and now Gridlock won’t work on my iPhone 4 running IOS 7. SAD!
