How to Remove Your Voice History from Google Assistant and Alexa

Whenever you say the wake word for either Alexa or Google Home, the devices don’t just listen to what you’re saying after, they record it and upload it to the cloud in order to do their magic. Personally, I don’t have too much of an issue with this myself, but I do get the concern from people about all this data being stored and somehow being used against them in the future.

So, if you happen to be one of those with the odd predicament of being concerned about this but also willing to use the Alexa and Home, here’s a quick tip on how to clear out all of those recordings when you want so they aren’t being kept indefinitely.

Clear Voice History from Alexa

For Alexa, head to amazon.com/mycd in any web browser and log in to your Amazon account that your Echo(s) is connected to.

Log In To Amazon

Click on Your Devices.

Click My Devices

Click the three dot icon to the left of the device you want to clear the recordings for and click Manage Voice Recordings.

Tap Three Dots Next to Device

Read and make sure you are okay with the disclaimer that pops up and click Delete.

Repeat for any other Alexa enabled devices you want to wipe clean.

Clear Voice History from Google Assistant

For Google, head to myactivity.google.com in any web browser and log in with your Google account.

Head to Google Activity

Click Delete Activity By.

Click on History

Then choose a time frame you’d like to delete from or select All Time to delete all of it, select Voice and Audio from the next drop-down, and click Delete.

Select Timeframe to Clear

Then confirm you want to delete it all.

Delete the Audio Data

Boom, clean slates and Google and Amazon’s servers no longer have your voice recordings. Let me know if this was helpful or if there are other tutorials you’d like to see me do and follow me on social for more tech stuff and to say hi. Thanks for reading.
