Video: How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
Want to root your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and get rid of some of that annoying bloatware Samsung puts on the phone? I don’t blame you. I’m pretty vocal about my disdain for the majority of custom UI’s that manufacturers put on their devices in an effort to make their phones a bit different than the rest of the Android phone world. I get the need, sort of, but it generally just slows down the phone and has some questionable design choices (comic sans font? really?).
If you feel the way I do, don’t worry, there is a solution. If you root your Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, you can then remove some of the bloatware manually, or even take it one step further and flash a custom ROM (aka an entirely new version of Android) onto the phone.
Don’t be intimidated either, thanks to Odin and some crafty developers over on XDA, it’s a pretty straight-forward affair (so long as you have one of the supported models).
Ready to get started? Here’s how to root the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus:
Before You Begin
- This will erase the phone, so backup anything you don’t want to lose before getting started.
- This tutorial requires Windows as the Samsung flashing software, Odin, is for Windows only.
- You need to know what model of the Galaxy S6 Plus you have as this will only work on specific versions and the kernel we use to root the phone is specific to each model as well. Head to Settings > About Phone and write down the model number for reference later.
For a list of currently supported models, check the developer’s page here.
Enable OEM Lock and USB Debugging
Before we root the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, we need to perform a few actions on the phone to get it ready.
- Go to Settings > About Phone and tap on Build Number repeatedly until it tells you you are a developer.
- Tap Back and tap on the new Developer Options that appeared.
- Scroll down and turn on USB Debugging and turn on OEM Unlocking.
Root the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
Now that we have the setup on the phone out of the way, we can begin flashing the rooted kernel onto the phone to gain root access.
Download the Required Files
- Download Samsung’s firmware flashing software, called Odin, and save it to your desktop:
Odin Download - Download the rooted kernel for your specific model number from the developer:
Auto-Rooting Kernel
Put the Phone into Download Mode
- Turn off your device.
- Turn it back on by holding down Power, Home, and Volume Down and keep holding them until you get the download mode screen.
- Plug the phone into the computer via USB.
Root the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus by Flashing the Kernel
- Right-click on the Odin file you downloaded earlier and click Open As Administrator.
- When it opens, you should see Added in one of the slots indicating that it can see the phone. If not, please head to my how to setup ADB tutorial to just install the drivers, then unplug the phone and plug it back in and see if that fixed it.
- Click AP in the toolkit and select the SpaceX kernel .tar.gz file then click OK.
- Click Start and wait for it to flash.
Update SuperSU
- After that, the phone should reboot. Open the SuperSU app that is now in your app drawer and it should prompt you that it needs to update the binaries. If it does, let it, if not, then you are all set.
All set. You can now do this tutorial from XDA and flash a custom recovery image. After that, head to my ROM repository and use that to flash a custom ROM until you find one you love.
Let me know how this worked out for you in the comments below!
After doing so my phone is on the start up mode saying keanel is not seandroid enforcing how do i solve this issue
At what step exactly did it do that?
after last step
Click AP in the toolkit and select the SpaceX kernel .tar.gz file then click OK.
Click Start and wait for it to flash.
it says pass in odin but mobile not restarting just showing that in corner “keanel is not seandroid enforcing”
What model and carrier do you have and which Kernel did you flash?
SM-G928i Starhub SIngapore
OK, and you used the one for the FICKLS versions, right? If so, then that is something you need to bring up in that form or to the developer himself who made the kernel so he can help with why the kernel for your version isn’t working.
Okay.. thank you anyways
What did you do Andrik to fix it? It just happened to mine too, saying “Kearnel is not seandroid enforcing”.

Now i have to pay for them to get reset the software 🙁
No you don’t. Either do this tutorial below or contact the developer like I said and get him to give you the right kernel so you can reflash it and it’ll be fine.

Hello David. I’m having the same issue. Except mine is the Tmobile 928T. After flashing the kernel, it states that the kernel is not seandroid enforcing. It is stuck on the start up image of “Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus black page”. I downloaded the correct kernel, so Im not sure what went wrong. Any idea how to fix it?
After doing last step my phone is on the start up mode saying keanel is not seandroid enforcing how do i solve this issue??
What model of the S6 Edge do you have? And what kernel did you flash? Double check this page and make sure it is correct, if it is then contact the developer on that page for why his kernel is no longer working – http://forum.xda-developers.com/s6-edge-plus/development/auto-rooting-stock-kernels-s6-edge-plus-t3194607/post62744199#post62744199
To undo it all just do this – https://theunlockr.com/2015/04/27/unroot-samsung-galaxy-s6-galaxy-s6-edge/
Followed your instructions and worked fine although i did not seem to lose any of my files as you stated at the beginning, which is a plus for me
I have a sm-g928v which doesnt seem to have a kernel file….any suggestions?
Unfortunately you’llhave to contact the developer to ask about when he’ll release a kernel for your phone. You can contact him at the link where you were looking at the kernels.
Okay will do. thanks of the quick replay. I know one click root claims to have support for the 928V, and thouoghts on that route of root?
If it says it’s supported then sure.
Guess I will try it out. Ill be sure to let you know. Thanks for responding and go enjoy your sunday man
Please do! Good luck!
@disqus_MdljCJCm4F:disqus did the dev ever reply? I’d love the kernel file for SM-928V
Can you unroot your Galaxy s6 plus? Just wondering before I do this.

Hello, Mr. Unlockr. I have a problem. I have just tried to root my phone, and I followed your video on everything I need to do. Unfortunately, I accidentally got the wrong model number, and now my phone is stuck in a bootloop, essentially softbricking it. I would like your help in solving my problem, if you can manage time for a random youtube commenter like me. Thank you for your time.
My model Number is SM-G928A
Try this tutorial – https://theunlockr.com/2015/04/27/unroot-samsung-galaxy-s6-galaxy-s6-edge/
I did, and my Odin keeps saying that the unrooting process failed, and the phone stays in a bootloop. It also seems as though your links don’t support my model. Sorry for the inconvenience.

You need to check with the developer of the toolkit that your model is supported (the link in step 2 at the top). Did you download the kernel for your exact model?

I have the 928V but the developers don’t have that one listed. can i not root?
You’ll have to find that version. Check with the developers at that link and see what they say about it.
the phone does not properly rebooted, “KERNAL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING” in shown on left top corner of the screen
