How to Root the ZTE Concord (T-Mobile)
Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device. Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.
Once you have root access on your ZTE Concord (T-Mobile), you’ll be able to:
- Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
- Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
- Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
- Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
- Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
- Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. Please factory reset your device before doing this procedure.
II. Downloading Required Files
1. Download Update ZIP and save it to your Desktop.

2. Copy Update ZIP from your Desktop over to the root of your SD card.

5. Reboot your device into Recovery mode. To do that, simply hold down Volume DOWN+Power buttons together for a couple of seconds.
6. Press the Home button on your device.
7. Select Apply update from sdcard and hit Menu key.
8. Select Update.zip to be installed on your device.
9. It should start flashing the ZIP on your device.
10. Once flashing’s done, reboot your device.
11. Head over to the Google Play and download and install Superuser as well as BusyBox apps on your device.
12. You’re now rooted!
By the way, don’t be scared, you can always put your device back to stock by heading to our Rooting How To’s section, finding your device, and doing the How to Unroot listed for it there.
Unfortunately I tried this and it did not work. It may be because the phone I purchased is the ZTE Concord II, android 4.3 from Metropcs…do you know how to root this phone? Thank you
Same, how do you root this phone?
The procedure above only roots the T-Mobile variant of the device. So if you’re on MetroPCS, the above procedure won’t work for you.
Do you have a metropcs root? I hate a zte concord II
this does not work for my phone i had to use another method that was not for my phone but it worked,
Hi Kyle,
Can you please let us know the method that worked for you?
Yes how do you root the zte concord 2?!? Titanium Backup won’t work without root!
Hey Raymond,
It seems there’s no root method available to root the Concord 2. So, you’ll have to wait until one comes up.
Thanks!
What is an SVI setting ?
I can’t find the .zip
what am i suppose to do after i install superuser and busy box?
Once rooted, you can install root-only apps on your device.
To confirm whether you’ve root-access or not, install the Root Checker app on your device and it should tell you your root-status.
