Rumor: YouTube Paid Subscription Services Expected Soon
Google is reportedly preparing to reveal a new YouTube subscription service that would allow users to sign up for access to individual channels. The move could be unveiled as early as this week and subscription fees are expected to begin at $1.99 per month, per channel.
Here’s what a YouTube spokesperson had to say in response to the growing rumors:
“We’re looking into creating a subscription platform that could bring even more great content to YouTube for our users to enjoy and provide our partners with another vehicle to generate revenue from their content, beyond the rental and ad-supported models we offer.”
If YouTube commits to move forward with this change it would put it in line to compete with already established subscription networks like Hulu and Netflix.
