Samsung CEO Says ‘Never’ to Purchasing HP’s webOS
After the quick demise of HP’s webOS, rumors were spread ramptly in speculation of who, if anyone, was going to buy up the webOS platform. It wasn’t long before speculation swirled around Samsung as a possible bidder. However, with Samsung’s plate already full with Bada, Android, and Windows Phone 7, the company has officially declined.
Samsung’s CEO Choi Gee Sung told a group of reporters at the IFA consumer electronics fair, that the company would “never” pursue a webOS deal. Sung actually lamented over what he felt was a trend of obtaining operating systems. He continued to say, “It’s not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion.”
So what is to become of webOS? Currently, Hewlett-Packard is still considering partnerships and licensing deals with manufacturers that possibly want to utilize WebOS software in their devices. Until an interested manufacturer surfaces, the future for webOS will remain unclear.
