Samsung Galaxy Discover Launching with Vanilla Android and Modest Specs
Samsung plans to quietly release the latest Galaxy device without their TouchWiz overlay and a vanilla Android experience. The smartphone, named the Galaxy Discover, will have an untouched Android OS direct from Google and modest specs. While the Discover isn’t exactly a 100% pure Google phone like the Galaxy Nexus, it’s close.
The device will ship with entry level specs that include a single-core 800Mhz Qualcomm processor, a 3.5-inch 262K HVGA display with a resolution of 320 x 480 display, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Additionally, the device has 2.7GB of internal memory that’s expandable to 32GB via a microSD card slot.
It’s quite possible that the modest specs are the explanation behind the stock Android experience, perhaps Samsung didn’t want to invest the development into this particular device. It’s also possible that Samsung looks at the Discover as a budget Android device that didn’t warrant Samsung’s signature TouchWiz overlay.
Currently the Galaxy Discover is headed for two networks: Net10 and Straight Talk. Exact launch dates and pricing are still unknown.
