Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9103 goes to the FCC with Tegra2 CPU in tow
Dropping Sammy’s own Exynos chip that sold in millions since its release, the company seems to be trying an entirely different hardware component for yet another variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II, this time opting for the Tegra2 CPU from Nvidia. The variant, numbered GT-I9103, has turned up at the FCC for approval recently. While there’s no perceptible difference in performance in both the above components (unless you want to go by Quadrant scores), this decision from Samsung might be related more to cost effectiveness than performance, although we don’t see how dropping your own tech to adopt something else entirely would make a cell phone cheaper.
As with the original GT-I9100 that whizzed through the FCC earlier, the GT-I9103 also carries the same WCDMA frequencies that AT&T uses, but this still doesn’t elucidate where exactly this version is heading to. There’s speculation that it could be headed for Canada, since most carriers there use the same bands that AT&T uses, but we’ll just have to wait till we know more on that.
