Samsung reveals new naming protocol for its Android devices, announces four new phones
Samsung has today revealed how it will be naming devices from now, making it much more easier for interested buyers to make the right choice when looking for an Android device from the company. The devices will be slotted into four different tiers in its popular Galaxy range. To get us acquainted with this new idea, Sammy has announced four new handsets, which will be shown off at the upcoming IFA 2011 expo in Germany.
First up is Y, standing Young, which will feature entry level phones that should cost cheap, yet give user the complete Android experience. These phones will be built with the younger crowd in mind and will also be aimed at emerging markets. The company has announced two new phones under this category, the Samsung Y and the Y Pro, and is usual with most Pro phones, the Y Pro has a physical QWERTY keypad for easier typing – in the same vein, another tag, LTE, will be added to the ends of device names that will feature 4G support.
Second up the rung will be M or Magical, which will feature phones that will have mid-range specs and value for money, whereas W or Wonder will be the first class in three more upper tiers which will feature smartphones with slightly better specs than a mid-tier device. The Galaxy M Pro and the Galaxy W will be two such devices.
On top sit the R or Royal and the S series, which will feature premium and flagship phones like the Galaxy S or the SII.
