Samsung sells over 5 million Galaxy S II smartphones in 85 days

After a record sellout of its flagship phone, the Galaxy S II, Samsung has come back with yet more figures to boast of.  The company has announced that the Galaxy S II has now surpassed the 5-million mark in sales and has done it in a relatively short period of 85 days since its release; take note that this reflects only the units shipped to its various channels and operators but the Korean giant seems confident enough that this will translate into actual sales eventually.  Enjoying 56% market share on its home turf, South Korea, a big chunk of the 5 million handsets will have been sold there, but this will be hard to confirm as the company has not revealed anything on where the Galaxy S II has been more popular.

With the US release looming and two carriers already in the loop, Samsung has already set its eyes on its next goal – 10 million units in sales – and given its track record, we have little doubt that the device will meet and exceed that number.
