Skype gets updated to 2.0, now cracked to work with many more devices
Yesterday, Skype updated its Android client version to 2.0 and announced video calling support to limited devices – HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and Pro, and the Nexus S. The client now enables cross-platform video-calling on 3G/4G and WiFi networks, just like the native Google Talk app that now voice/video after the Android 2.3.4 update. Just as other Android users were despairing over the situation, an enterprising dev called Pulser over at VillainROM has now managed to tweak the apk file (which was originally meant for the Samsung Galaxy S II) to run on many more devices than the ones on the official list.
Skype 2.0 is now said to work on the HTC Evo 3D/4G, Sensation 4G, Thunderbolt, the HTC Flyer and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The app should run flawlessly on other devices too but this is yet to be confirmed.
Download it here and sound out in the Comments section below if you have got it working on your device.
Update: Some of our users are reporting that the app does work, but if it doesn’t, installing the cracked app on top of the official version seems to do the trick. Let us know if you run into anymore problems.
Installed it on my HTC Flyer and it works great.
I hat to remove the official build first as installing over it didn’t work. All good now!
How do I get past “only applications from trusted sources can be installed”. Thanks!
Keeps saying application not installed….do i have to be on 2.3? I wasnt sure if they brought this for phones on 2.2 or not…thats what i was confused about
the app works fine until i get to the actual video call part.. once i press the video call button it says initializing video and then crashes immediately
just got it to download, and everything works but the video, on my 2.2 atrix btw…when i go to vid cal, it just flips it to landscape mode
HTC Evo. Would not install over regular version. Uninstalled official version and installed this successfully. However, every time I try to start video, app crashes. Not working.
