Skype releases version 3.0 for iPhone, adds video calling

Skype has announced the latest version of its iPhone client today and with it comes a much-awaited feature, video calling.  Unlike FaceTime which limits video calling to other iOS devices, Skype now supports two-way Skype-to-Skype video calling and along with other iOS devices, users can now go face to face with Skype users on the desktop version.  The app works both on 3G and WiFi, and is completely free as always (data charges apply of course, if you are on 3G).  There is no indication as yet about a version for other mobile operating systems, but we are guessing the iOS version is just the beginning of a grand plan to conquer all smartphones with cameras and a 3G/WiFi connection.

The app is available right now for iPhone4, iPhone 3GS and 4th-gen iPod Touch with iOS 4.0, but the new version also works on iOS 3.x albeit with no video calling capabilities. If you qualify, head over to the iTunes Store.
