Sony Ericsson Xperia Play to launch in Spain on April 1st?
The news that the Play will finally see the light of day is great but a quick glance at the suggested price could definitely bring many our thumbgamers back down to earth. According to a Spanish mobile news site, the Xperia Play will be launched on 1st April at a price of €649, which sure isn’t cheap, even if you are able to play PSOne games on the go. The only solace we could possibly find from this tidbit is that is the unlocked price, and there might be a huge reduction in the cost if it’s tied down to a carrier.
Sony Ericsson seems to have other parts of Europe covered too, and this Android 2.3 device is scheduled for a release in the UK on O2 by March 31 and has made its way on to the German Amazon shelves already for about €537, again for the unlocked version. While O2 UK pricing plans remain unclear as of now, the release date (and the designated carrier?) remains unknown in Germany’s case.
Nevertheless, we are pretty sure there are plenty of people who like the idea of a PSPhone and would be ready to shell out whatever is demanded, but will that put this in up there in the big league? We’ll have to wait and watch.
