Sony Plans to Launch a New Line of Flat External Batteries Designed to Juice Up Your Smartphone or Tablet

Sony hopes to help its loyal consumers fight the endless battle against those pesky batteries that never seem to stay charged. The company announced today that it will launch an entire product line of flat external batteries designed specifically for smartphones and tablets.

The external batteries will be available in capacities ranging from 3,500 to 7,000mAh, weighing in at approximately 198 grams and will measure 130.6mm by 12.9mm. In case you left your ruler at home, picture about the size of an average smartphone.  According to Sony, the 3,500mAh version of its new line can be reused about 500 times, and will juice up an average smartphone in approximately 130 minutes. They can be recharged in about 8 hours by USB and 4 hours by electric outlet.

In addition to the larger external chargers,  Sony also plans on launching a smaller “stick-type” external batteries in various colors. Both battery types are set to launch this fall, with prices ranging from $30- $90.
