Sony Xperia X10 will Be Available in the UK Next Month

So the Sony Xperia X10 (the next snapdragon Android device) is arriving in the UK next month on February 19th. And in Sony fashion, it’s ridiculously priced; the Euro version goes for 885 USD. I’d assume the US version will be a little bit less (my guess is closer to $700-$800), but still no release date for the States.

So between the Nexus One and the X10, which would you rather go for? And then knowing that someone will, in all likelihood, rip the Timescape UI off the Sony and put it on other phones once it is released…. hmmm

  1. It’s a real toss up.

I had a Sprint hero and returned it because it was too slow. The Nexus looks like it’s faster, leaner, smarter brother.

But I’ve had my eye on the X10 since the Sprint Hero was announced.

However, if I were to hold out (I’m in the US) for a X10, I would probably not get the X10. The X10 in my mind at this date is damaged goods. I mean, it’s like 9-12 months delayed now. If it just has the name Ericcson, well maybe, but I no longer can trust Sony for much of anything, and a phone that was delayed like this one has been will probably have all sorts of problems.

If I were to wait, I’d be waiting for Nexus “Pro” with a real keyboard, or Android WIMAX or Android LTE from one of the carriers.

That said, what makes you write:

“So between the Nexus One and the X10, which would you rather go for? And then knowing that someone will, in all likelihood, rip the Timescape UI off the Sony and put it on other phones once it is released….”

    A) This hasn’t been the case with HTC Sense, has it? It’s stayed on the HTC devices. Why wouldn’t Timescape and Mediascape?

What I’m really curious about is why the Palm Pre’s multitasking card UI hasn’t made it over in any form to Android. Yes, it would be a complete rewrite, but the Palm multitasking card UI is a complete win compared to the various Android Application Killers and Android Process/Task/Application switchers.

    1. Jerry,

Sense UI stayed on HTC Devices only because most of the developers are using HTC phones and they want the stuff on their phones lol not move it from their phones to someone else’s. But other Android UIs have come to HTC devices as well (just like I’d assume they would do with Timescape), like the MotoBlur ROMs.

As for Pre UI coming to Android, not the same situation. Loading Timescape would just be a custom ROM you could easily load within Android (since it is the same OS just with a UI on top). Pre is PalmOS and it is a different OS entirely, that’s like saying putting Windows Mobile on an Android device, it’s not impossible but its not something someone would do for free in their spare time 🙂
As for the card UI coming as an add on App, not sure why it hasn’t in all honesty. Same reason Android apps aren’t as polished as they could be? Not enough grants for developers etc (like what Apple did to jump start and fund their App Store).
As more and more Android phones come out though, developers will start to see the potential of making an Android app and the huge audience their app would get and well get better apps.

  2. I hadn’t know the motoblur roms had been traveling….

Instead of the nth App Task Killer App in the market, I would like to see someone sit down and write a cards based task controller.

That said, since this morning and now there’s been a rumor of a dual core iPhone 4G with an OLED screen, removable battery, and video chat coming out as early as April. Were I to wait for February for an X10, I’d probably be willing to wait until April, and though I’d prefer an Android that was not on AT&T, there’s a lot to be said for a dual core iPhone.

    1. Jerry,

What does a phone that can only run one app at a time need a dual core processor for? lol
No but a dual core anything would be pretty sexy for sure, but hey rumors for now…

  3. I really doubt about that…

The new test1 soft is about to popup W3-5 which means the end of January / beginning of feb…

Test2 is w9-10 which means the begging of march…..

April is more realistic release date unfortunately.
