T-Mobile Launches a Site for You to Check When HSPA+ Is Coming To Your City
T-Mobile has recently launched a section of their coverage checking website to display what cities their new 21Mbps HSPA+ network is up and running and what cities it will soon be hitting. For those who don’t know T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network is their first step towards 4G speeds. The benefit of T-Mobile’s HSPA+ over say Sprint’s Wimax 4G network is that you don’t need new hardware to see a speed increase. To get the highest speeds an HSPA+ enabled phone will be required, BUT all current handsets that support 3G will see a significant increase regardless.
I personally got to test this on my Nexus One when in NYC recently and can say that even in Brooklyn I was getting close to 5mbps peak down and about 3mbps average (to put that into perspective I get about 0.8mbps average on the regular 3G network) but I’ll get into speed test of the different carrier networks some other day…
Here is T-Mobile’s new site where you can check HSPA+ availability and learn a bit more about the network.
