Twitter Owned Video Sharing App Vine Gets a NC-17 Rating After Surge in Porn Clips
It wasn’t long before pornography reared its head on the Twitter-owned video-sharing app, Vine forcing the company to add an age rating for possible adult content. A new version of the app has been released that now requires users to confirm that they are at least 17 years of age. The original app detailed its usage as being appropriate for users 12 and up.
The app designed for iPhone and iPod Touch users, allows its users to create and share six-second video clips. Unfortunately, only a few short weeks after its launch, the app became saturated with pornography and material not suited for underage users. Twitter made its first attempt at damage control by blocking various porn-related hashtags or search terms like “#porn” and “#naked”.
While Twitter’s initial attempt to put on lid on the racy clips is commendable, we all know that any child under 17 years old without proper parental supervision can simply tap “ok” to the NC-17 rating and continue on with the app as before.
Twitter has yet to comment on any additional measures they plan to take to ensure the app does not get removed from the Apple store for the potential to search and find naked bodies.
