Unlocked HTC Evo 3D available for preorder in the UK at £500

The device is set for a release in early September on major UK carriers but those looking to avoid long lines and fear of stock running out could preorder the handset, now that the Evo 3D is up for preorder.

As of now, Play.com is offering the 3D smartphone from HTC for £500 (which works out to a bank-breaking $815 in local money) in its unlocked state, while MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk is giving away the handset for free if you are ready to sign a two-year contract with Vodafone UK and agree to pay £33.50 every month – doing the same with T-Mobile will also get you the device for free, but the monthly commitment will run up to £40.80 which the carrier is compensating with double the minutes that Vodafone UK offers.  While Play.com promises a 5th September delivery, the other retailer has chosen to remain vague with an early September shipping date.

One of the two 3D smartphones (the other being the LG Optimus 3D) touring the world currently, the HTC Evo 3D as its name suggests features glasses-free 4.3-inch qHD 3D display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor matched by 1GB of RAM, dual 5-megapixel camera for taking 3D video and pictures and Gingerbread 2.3 operating system dipped in HTC’s own eye candy called Sense 3.0.  The device is already available in the US from Sprint and the GSM version is expected to hit the shelves later this month.
