Verizon HTC Thunderbolt getting an update on May 3
No, it’s not Gingerbread but still a significant update that fixes many glitches and improves the overall usability of the HTC Thunderbolt. The update, about 22MB, will start rolling out beginning May 3 and can either be done OTA or manually depending on your preferences. Some of the improvements include:
- Enhance data connectivity when accessing the Verizon 3G network
- SMS and MMS messages are stored properly in the Messaging Application (Inbox, Sent, etc.)
- Timing for device activation has been improved
- “Backup Assistant” is correctly displayed in the Application menu.
- Stability improvements for data centric applications such as Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon and more.
- Accurate location is displayed when accessing the Weather Widget.
- Quickly load GPS updates for Google Maps and VZ Navigator.
As for the 2.3 Android update proper, it looks like Thunderbolt users may have to stick to Fring and the like before they can start getting chatty face to face via GTalk.
Fring? You mean Froyo?
No he meant Fring 🙂 He’s referring to the video calling feature in GTalk and that users will have to use Fring (or other video calling third party software) to video call while they wait for a 2.3.4 Gingerbread update (which has the GTalk video chat feature).
How about enhancing 4G connectivity? The 4G connection drops numerous times, so much that i expect it to happen while having to use it. It’s very annoying when you really need your connection to work but can’t get anything done.
