Verizon Now Blocking Hotspot Tethering For Jailbroken Devices
Verizon has now joined AT&T in an under the radar effort to block hotspot tethering for users without a data plan. Rooted Android devices and jailbroken iPhone devices are now reportedly being redirected to a unique referral page when attempting to connect to a device to share its 3G or 4G connectivity. The referral page informs the user that they will need to pay an additional $20 monthly fee to gain the requested access. Users have just recently reported seeing this new page within the last day.
This move does not come as a surprise as most carriers rarely support anything that allows access to free data or extra services. In most cases, it is merely a matter of time before a carrier finds a way to limit any loopholes consumers have been using to their advantage.
