Verizon to Close Doors On 3 Customer Service Centers, 3,100 Jobs Affected

Verizon announced today that it would be closing down operations in three of its major customer service centers in Bellevue,WA, Southfield, MI, and Houston,TX. The three centers house approximately 3,100 jobs and are expected to shut down within the next few months. While Verizon would not comment on what the company would be saving annually with the massive cut, they did disclose what options employees were given. Those affected by the layoffs can either accept jobs in surrounding areas, accept a severance package, or opt for a 10K relocation package.

Verizon is widely expected to spend billions toward building out a high-speed, fourth-generation mobile broadband network over the next several years. With the astronomical cost involved, we’re left wondering if more “restructuring” lies ahead.
