Windows Mobile 7 Debuting in February?

According to Robbie Bach, Microsoft’s President of Entertainment and Device Devision, Microsoft will be demoing Windows Mobile 7 at the Mobile World Congress in Mid-February. He also states that Windows Mobile 7 is NOT just an evolutionary release to Windows Mobile 6.5, but that it is much more. Windows Mobile 7 is going to be a big deal for the future of Windows Mobile, it could make or break the trailing OS.

What I think (again this is my personal speculation) Microsoft will do is this: drop legacy support (won’t support Windows Mobile 6 or below apps, and possibly not even 6.5), make it much more similar to the Zune HD’s User Interface, add in some Xbox 360 game support (remote play like features form the PS3, possibly?), and basically start from scratch. This could all be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how they do it, but either way a majoy overhaul is necessary.

What do you guys think? What would it take to get you to even look twice at a Windows Mobile device?

  1. For me I aways liked winMobile, but when android game out I got the G1, it has been nice, but as soon as HD2 comes out I will be back to windows.

  2. I have some faith in Microsoft. While Windows mobile has been lacking, I’m sure windows will do something to compete with android and the other mobile OS. Microsoft always comes back, look at how they went from Vista (which wasnt’t very good) to a great OS like Windows 7!
