Windows Mobile 7 Info

So some serious Windows Mobile 7 news was reported by WMExperts today. They are saying that have intel on two new Windows Mobile 7 phones due out this year and some of the concepts behind Windows Mobile 7 as well. Curious? Me too.

First it seems that Windows Mobile 7 will have to versions; Business and Media edition.

The first will be a more basic version of the OS meant for other companies to put their own UIs on top of (HTC Sense anyone?) and has slightly lower minimum specs required.

The second is based around media (duh) and has a higher minimum specs required as well as having the end phone features being somewhat driven by Microsoft themselves. Some interesting features of the Media edition phones are that they will have integration with Facebook, Twitter, and Xbox Live as well as being focused on HD capture and playback.

Now the crazy stuff, the two phones to debut Windows Mobile 7 will be the Apollo by LG and the Obsession by HTC. Here are the nutty specs:

Apollo –

3G world phone, supports EVDO (CDMA) and HSDPA (GSM)
1.3ghz Processor
3.8″ AMOLED WXGA Display (1280 x 720)
10MP camera
720P Recording
August/September 2010

Obessession –

HSDPA 3G (GSM
1GHz Processor
3.7 AMOLED
5.0MP Camera
720P Recording
Due out in October 2010

So again these are just rumors but sure would be a nice way to launch a new OS on these specs, no?

My concern is, will these specs be in a bunch of other phones by that time? Seems like great specs compared to today’s phones, but in the 6 months before launch it might become just normal specs… What do you guys think?

  1. i’m wondering the same thing. if wm7 can go onto the hd2 i am soo all over that. if android goes on the hd2 i’ll get it as well, but an actual upgrade to wm7 would seal the deal.

  2. ….sounds great! im not going to get my hopes up, we all have been burned with microsoft mobile before!

Microsoft better test it and test it agian befor they release it because Apple and Android will be all over it.

….. I heard that MB 7 is not oing to support older apps and things is it true? It is fine with me couse they have to start fresh but I wonder if they will release their own APP market due to this reason? hmmmmm

    1. Peter,

Ya it will definitely not support older WM apps, which is a good and a bad thing. Means they are starting from scratch which is VERY necessary from their stand point, but like you said that means starting over from scratch for apps. Microsoft developers might be quick to jump on apps though since there are so many of them. But well see.

  3. After using a HTC Fuze for less then a month… I’ll never use a WiMo device… Android all the way…

    Don’t get me wrong… I’m a W7 guy… But not on my freaking phone…

Do hope WiMo makes a good enough device to make Android keep on it’s toes…
