Windows Phone 101: How to View Desktop Version of Websites (Video)

Sometimes a mobile site is a great thing. It loads faster, organizes the site in a way that’s easier to navigate by finger, etc. but once in a while they either aren’t implemented well or are just missing some of the features the full desktop site offers. Windows phone has a way to get around this by telling all sites that you are, in fact, surfing from a desktop browser instead of a mobile one. Here’s how to view the desktop version of a site on Windows Phone 8.

1. Go to any website you want to visit.

2. Tap three dots at the bottom.

3. Tap Settings.

4. Change website preference from Mobile to Desktop.

5. Refresh the website you were viewing.

6. Simply change the setting back to Mobile from Desktop to undo this for future sites.

  1. Thanks for the info. However, this isn’t working with YouTube. I have my browser set to desktop already but can only get to the mobile site. I’m on Windows Phone 8.1. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    1. Some sites dont have a desktop version. They are called responsive sites. The items on the page just move to adjust for your screen size instead of two separate sites (one for mobile and one for desktop). So those might not be effected (like my site here for example).
