Windows Phone App of the Day: LinkedIn (It’s Here!)
I can’t believe I’m writing this app review. At TheUnlockr.com, we try to choose apps that most people may not have heard about, so we can sort through the sh*t and recommend stuff you’ll actually like. This post is decidedly not along those lines. LinkedIn, the app that needs to introduction, was introduced to the Windows Phone 7 platform on Tuesday. It garnered 737 ratings already on WindowsPhone.com. The public has spoken, and it’s looking like 5 stars across the board. If you don’t know about LinkedIn, just stop reading.
Pros
- Free!
- It’s actually on Windows Phone 7, and the UI is even better than on iOS!
- Live tiles for messages, invitations, news, and more
- World’s leading go-to professional network
- Connect with over 161M LinkedIn users worldwide
- Read the latest industry news
- Keep up to date with friends, current and past coworkers, and your organizations
- Discover new professional opportunities
- Upload resume, skills, activities, photos, status updates, and write and receive recommendations
- Share content with your entire network
Cons
- You are almost definitely the last person of anyone you know to have LinkedIn on your phone, but don’t worry. I didn’t have it either until I started writing this review
How It Works
- Download from the “Social” category of your Marketplace
- Open from your app list
- Enter your email and password
- Select “Sign Up” at the bottom of the log in screen if you don’t have an account (yikes)
- View updates on the home page
- Scroll to the right through the pivots to and live tiles for LinkedIn, Groups, Jobs, Invitations, Messages, and Companies
- Scroll right again to view your profile, who has recently viewed your page, and see people you may know
- Select the “+” at the bottom of your screen to share an update with your network
- Select the hourglass at the bottom of your screen to search through your connections or add new ones
- Click on the “…” symbol at the bottom of your screen to add connects, edit your settings, refresh, or sign out
Conclusion
For an app that needs to introduction, it really needs to conclusion. I’m excited LinkedIn finally started respecting the Windows Phone enough to introduce itself to the WP platform. The live tiles feature is awesome, and I actually really like the UI better on Windows Phone than on iOS. I’ve had LinkedIn for iOS for years, but maybe now I’ll actually start using it. Go ahead and jump on the bandwagon, again, because that’s exactly what you need…another social network.
