ZTE Confirms the Grand S Is Coming to the U.S., Carrier and Launch Details Still Unknown

When ZTE officially introduced its flagship Grand S smartphone earlier this week at CES, the company said that its new handset would be launching in China during Q1 of 2013 with no word of a U.S. launch. That now appears to have all changed as ZTE USA CEO Lixin Cheng confirmed to CNET that the Grand S will definitely be headed to U.S. retailers later this year.Of course Cheng couldn’t confirm specific launch details or which carrier would add the Grand S to its device portfolio.

ZTE does not have a huge presence stateside, and that’s mainly due to the only devices ZTE pushes to the U.S are low end models or devices that get stripped from their ZTE logos for carrier branding instead. If ZTE can gain a heavier support base from U.S. carriers then that could all stand to change. U.S. carriers are beginning to warm up to ZTE due to their ability to manufacture phones at a much faster rate than the competition. ZTE devices are noted to move from design to retail shelves in a time period of 6-8 months versus the standard 12-18 months.

So what does the Grand S have to offer future U.S. consumers? The device stands to join the growing 5-inch display family. Aside from the 1080 display the device also sports a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD slot, and 4G LTE.  ZTE is most proud of the 6.9mm thick body design that lends towards a rather sleek look.

While we all wait for ZTE to wrap up an actual U.S. carrier, check out the official debut of the Grand S in the video below. If the price was right, would you call yourself the owner of a brand new ZTE Grand S?

  1. ZTE CEO Lixin Cheng should focus more on quality and less or quantity. ZTE does not honor warranty and cannot repair cell phone returned for warranty repair. Buyers are expected to pay shipping for repair and expected to wait 2-3 weeks to get the maybe-repaired phone returned. If Cell Phone Companies like Boost, Sprint and Verizon realized what kind of failure prone equipment ZTE is flooding the American Market with, they would be less likely to partner with ZTE.

ZTE should be banned in USA for reasons of poor quality and no warranty. My RMA 2012122682176320121226821763
