How To: Get the SNES Emulator on the Nokia N900
December 8, 2009 in Featured, How To's, Maemo/MeeGo How To's, Nokia N900 How To's, Video
For those who got an N900 already, here is a how to for installing the SNES emulator on your phone.
I. Set up the Repositories that have the SNES Application
1. Do our How To Get More Apps on the Nokia N900 procedure to get all 3 Maemo.org repositories on the device.
2. Open the App Manager after it has updated and click on Download then Games and look for the DrNokSNES app and download it.
*If it is NOT there it might be because the author took it down for now, you can add this repository to your phone the same way you did the ones in the How To Get More Apps procedure, then come back to this step and continue.
Goto App Manager > tap the title bar and click Application catalogs > click New and put in the following information:
Catalog Name: Maemo Nintendo Emulators
Web Address: http://b-man.xceleo.org/repo/maemo-nintendo-emulators/
Distribution: (Leave Blank)
Components: main
II. Opening and Running the Emulator
1. Once you have finished installing the DrNokSNES app, you can then open it from the Main Menu under More…
2. To play a game, you need to find a ROM on the internet (we cannot post them here without getting in trouble so please do not ask for them here, use a search engine to find your own). The ROM comes in the form of a .zip file.
3. Place the .zip file on your N900 (memory card or internal, doesn’t matter) and then open the DrNokSNES app and click on the ROM button and it will bring up a file explorer.
4. Find the ROM .zip file you downloaded and click that. It will load it into the emulator.
5. Then click on Play to begin! Enjoy!
III. Optional
1. Before playing a game, click on the title bar of the DrNokSNES app and then click on Controls so you can see the current control setup and change it to your liking if you wish.
Thanks to B-Man for hosting the SNES Emulator in his Repository!
Thanks to Reesy for the Original DrPocketSNES Emulator!
Thanks to Javier for making DrNokSNES!
Reported Issues:
Issue: Try to run it but it says it needs these two files:
libzeemote
libzeemote-conf
Solution: You can either search the Maemo Devel repository for them (make sure you have done the How To Get More Apps on Your N900 procedure on our site, then open the app manager and click search to find them).
OR
Search the app manager for Zeemote Control Panel and install them, then install DrNokSNES.

if you are getting the error telling you its missing packages (libzeemote & libzeemote-conf) remember do the step 1 in the First Part of this tutorial. you are missing this “Maemo Developer Testing” repository.

I tried this over and over again and it keeps giving me the (libzeemote & libzeemote-conf) error. it prevent me from installing maemo developer testing and maemo testing. what do i do?
spinnukur said on December 16, 2009

the emulator just shuts down when i open the rom idk if its the file its self being that its still zipped
TheUnlockr said on December 23, 2009
N900_Newb,
It is most likely the ROM. They ARE supposed to be zipped so don’t unzip them.
Try downloading a ROM from a different website and see if that helps.

The terranigma rom stops after a few seconds, and also don’t have any audio output?
Any idea?
TheUnlockr said on December 27, 2009
Un,
Check on the Sound option before you start the ROM.
Fahad said on December 27, 2009
Guys, its still giving me the missing packages error even after I went and installed everything on the first video. Please let me know what do you? thankyou
un said on December 28, 2009
Hi Unlocker,
of course i checked the sound box before i started the game.
Do you have no prolems with this Rom?
Have you tried it?
TheUnlockr said on December 28, 2009
Un,
I have run plenty of games without issue, not that particular one though. Try a different game and see if that helps. Also try downloading from another website, some have good quality and some dont.

libzeemote-conf..
is devel repo disabled?
stiffler said on February 11, 2010
i found the emulator eventually but now its giving me the libzeemote errors,no point saying do the steps above i did it all accordingly but still says the same error….???
xeno said on February 23, 2010
for libzeemote issue.
in maemo extras and devel catalogs distribution needs to be set to fremantle not freemantle, dont know why but maybe its a intentional spelling error.

How is the performance while playing Final Fantasy III (VI in Japan)? How about Chrono Trigger?
TheUnlockr said on March 5, 2010
Joe,
I played Chrono Trigger on it and it worked great. Controls take some getting used to, but other than that ran pretty well.
Christofalot said on April 6, 2010
is there anywhere now that is hosting the SNES emulator? the b-man link doesnt work anymore as far as i can see..
TheUnlockr said on April 6, 2010
Christofalot,
I believe it is in the Devel Repository now… Go use our How To Get More Apps on the N900 procedure and then just search through the app manager.
Christofalot said on April 6, 2010

Hi people,
I have a problem, I installed everything correctly and already tried a rom, the thing is when the game begins to load the screen crashes :S and random pixels begin to appear…
Any ideias?
Thx
David Cogen said on August 27, 2010
Jose,
That is an issue for the SNES emulator people. Try loading a different game or download the game ROM from another website.
If that still doesn’t work try to find the SNES emulator developers.
José said on August 27, 2010
Thank you very much i’ll try a different one
Faheem said on September 6, 2010
I have the SNES emulator installed and have downloaded a few ROMS from the internet. My problem is the zip file had more than 200 ROMS… so can u guide me as to how to play these games?? or what should be the extension of these files?? or should i unzip all these files and zip them individually and then use them??
