In three short days, the Incredible S and the HTC Desire HD will be getting what has been long expected – some delicious Gingerbread of the 2.3.3 variety.  Although there was talk about the update being released last week, it wasn’t really and this time, HTC itself has come out and announced that the update will start rolling out on May 16th for unlocked phones – as for the carrier-locked devices, this is what HTC UK had to say on its Facebook page recently:

Hey guys, firstly we want to thank you all for being so patient about the Gingerbread update. We’ve been pushing this really hard and are pleased to announce that we are aiming to have the HTC Gingerbread update for unlocked HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S models available on 16th May 2011. For those waiting for their specific operator update, rest assured that we’re working very closely with each operator to get this just right and will update you as soon as we possibly can. Once again, we really appreciate your support and patience on this

While this is good news, we can’t help but say it would have been a better treat if the update was numbered Android 2.3.4 which could have brought GTalk video and voice chat to the Incredible S at least, as the Desire HD lacks the necessary secondary camera.
