Microsoft and Nokia Team Up to Give Out 25K Windows Phones to Developers

During the current Nokia World conference going on now in London, Microsoft and Nokia have announced a new program aimed directly at developers. The two companies have joined forces with the shared goal of enticing developers to write apps specifically for Windows Phone handsets. Starting today, the companies hope to give out 25K Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone devices to developers. Ultimately, the two companies hope to widen the Windows Phone consumer base by having a broader app base for consumers to choose from.
The Nokia Lumia 800, also known as the ‘Sea Ray’, was introduced to the world officially by Nokia just yesterday. The handset sports a 3.7-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 1.4GHz single-core processor, and an 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera. Future Lumia 800 owners will also receive 25GB of free cloud storage on Microsoft’s online SkyDrive.
This gesture to developers is part of the “Smarter Way to App” campaign launched last month by Microsoft and Nokia. The campaign aims to persuade 100,000 developers to build apps for the Windows Phone lineup by planning and hosting 1,000 joint events.
Hopefully through the “Smarter Way to App” campaign geared at the developer community, we’ll start to see even cooler Windows Phone apps surface in the coming days.
