How to Root the Huawei Sonic

The Huawei Sonic smartphone was launched with Android Gingerbread on-board and even though it’s been almost two years since it was launched, it’s still stuck on that older firmware. However, a root method has recently become available for the device that once applied, allows you to flash a custom recovery and then eventually some custom ROMs that are based on either ICS or JB. Before you do any of these, you’ll need to root your device and the guide below shows exactly how you can do that.

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. Your device should have at least 60% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Debranded ROM (Download link’s available in the first post)

2. Root Package (Download link’s given in the first post)

III. Rooting the Huawei Sonic:

1. Place both the files you downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Debranded ROM archive over to your Desktop.

3. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Copy the dload folder you have on your Desktop over to the root of your SD card.

5. Copy the Root Package as well to the SD card of your device.

6. Once both have been copied, unplug your device from your PC.

7. Turn OFF your device.

8. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after about five seconds.

9. Now press and hold the Volume UP+Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

10. It’ll automatically start flashing the ROM on your device.

11. Once the ROM has been flashed, reboot your device.

12. Turn OFF your device once again.

13. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after about three seconds.

14. Press and hold the Volume UP+Power buttons together and you should enter Recovery mode.

15. From there, select the option to flash the Root Package file.

16. It should start flashing the root package file on your device.

17. Once it’s been flashed, reboot your device.

18. You should be rooted now!

Congrats! Your Huawei Sonic has been successfully rooted and you’ll have the Superuser app up and running on your device!

IV. Flash a Custom Recovery Image (Optional):

1. If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the Huawei Sonic to learn how to do that.

If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.

  1. I got stuck on step 15 there is no such a selection!

The only relevant selection is Apply update or something like that, which returns me an error “Can’t mount SD Card …”

How to flash the zip or what else should I do?

    Thanks in advance.
