How to Overclock the Sony Xperia P

When you first get your hands on your smartphone, you might be surprised by its performance but over the time, everything seems to be not-so surprising. At such times, you may want to jazz-up your device, so you can keep up your excitement and never be bored with your device. The best way to do so is overclock your device, it’ll boost the speed of your device and you’ll be able to realize it as soon as you load-up some resource intensive apps and games on your device. Here’s how you can overclock your Sony Xperia P smartphone:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Sony Xperia P procedure first and root your device.

2. You must have CWM Recovery installed on your device. Check out our guide on the same to do that.

II. Make a Backup:

1. Head over to the Google Play and download and install the Quick Boot app on your device.

2. Launch the app from your App Drawer.

3. Hit the Recovery option and you’ll reboot into the Recovery mode.

4. Once inside Recovery, select backup and restore followed by backup.

5. It’ll create a backup of your entire filesystem and save it on your device.

6. You’re done!

III. Downloading Required Files:

1. Phantom Kernel (Download link’s given in the third post)

IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Sony Xperia P:

1. Download and place the Phantom Kernel zip onto your Desktop.

2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card.

4. Once it’s been copied, unplug your device from your PC.

5. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

6. Tap the Recovery option to reboot your device into Recovery mode.

7. Once in Recovery, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

8. Choose the Phantom Kernel zip to be flashed on your device.

9. It’ll begin flashing the kernel on your device.

10. Once the Kernel has been flashed, reboot your device.

11. You’re all done!

V. Overclocking the Sony Xperia P:

1. Download and install any of these apps on your device:

SetCPU

AnTuTU CPU Master

2. Once installed, open the app from your App Drawer.

3. Now drag the slider or use the available option to increase your CPU clock speed. Keep on doing so as long as your device doesn’t crash.

4. Make sure not to choose save on boot option in the app as it may crash your device.

5. Once you’re fine with a specific clock speed, close the app.

6. You’re all set!

Brilliant! Your Xperia P has been successfully overclocked. Enjoy the extra speeds you just unlocked on your device!

VI. Reverting Back to the Stock Kernel (Optional):

1. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

2. Tap on Recovery option and you’ll reboot into the Recovery mode.

3. Once there, select backup and restore followed by restore.

4. Choose the most recent backup to be restored on your device.

5. It’ll begin restoring the backup on your device, should take some good time to finish.

6. Once the backup has been restored, reboot your device.

7. You’re done!

Congrats! You’ve just reverted back to the stock kernel with no overclocking!

  1. Installed that kernel and when my phone rebooted I was just showing nice xperia colors in a loop… this sucks… man you ruined my phone… I’m waiting for battery to drain so it shuts down so I can get to boot it again since I can’t access the battery -.-

  2. hi dude!!!! pls help me with my problem if possibel!!!!

    I also followed the same procedure given above and when i rebooted my xperia p does not start!!!

    when i try to switch on while the mobile is on charging or connected to usb then red coloured led blinks next to the secondary camera!!!!

    and when i try to switch it on disconnecting the charger and usb storage then it vibrates for a sec or two but does not turn on!!!!!

    1. You might have tick-marked the option that says “save on boot”, apparently that’s what causing you issues. Maybe you should try flashing the stock firmware on your device if it can help you.
