How to Increase your Battery Life in Android Using Greenify (Video)

Battery-saving apps have been around since the dawn of Android. I remember trying to gain a minute or two of battery life on my HTC Thunderbolt, which was notorious for having an atrocious battery life. Greenify lets you select certain apps to go into “hibernation mode,” stopping them from running in the background which uses up some of your device’s resources and battery life. Unlike non-root tweaks, Greenify won’t let offending apps to turn back on again and run in the background after putting them into hibernation mode.

I. Root Your Android Device

1. To do this procedure, you must be rooted. If you aren’t, you can head to our Rooting How To’s section and pick the manufacturer you have, pick the device you have, pick the latest “how to root” method for your device and software version, finish that and then return here to continue (once you see SuperUser or SuperSU in you app drawer you are rooted).

II. Install Greenify

1. Open the Play Store.

2. Tap Search on the top right.

3. Type in Greenify.

4. Tap on Greenify when it shows up.

5. Tap Install in the top right corner.

6. Tap Accept when prompted.

III. Use Greenify

1. Tap Open when Greenify has finished installing.

2.Tap the + symbol at the bottom left.

  • The list of apps at the top are apps that Greenify deems as resource/battery hoggers. Probably not a bad place to start!

3. Tap Show more apps to see all the apps installed on your device.

4. Select whichever apps you want to put in hibernation mode.

5. Tap the check mark in the top right corner.

IV. Options

1. Tap the 3 vertically aligned dots on the bottom right of the list of apps that shows you which apps are setup for hibernation.

  • Disable auto-hibernation will prevent Greenify from putting your selected apps into hibernation mode automatically. This usually means that you want to put those apps into hibernation manually.
  • Tap Create hibernation shortcut to create a shortcut on your homescreen. Simply tap the shortcut whenever you want to put apps into hibernation mode that you have previously selected.

Enjoy!
