T-Mobile Sidekick 4G confirmed for April 20th release
While more ardent Android users would opt for the G2X (due out April 15th), users (read: teens) looking to increase their style quotient and vying for a thumb-friendly device will get the best of both worlds with the new Sidekick 4G on T-Mobile. Announced in March this year, the QWERTY-toting, now-Android-powered smartphone comes with 4G network support and its 21Mbps’ worth of blazing fast speeds along with the app-rich Android ecosystem that it previously lacked. Other notable specs include:
- 1GHz Hummingbird processor with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU
- 3.5 inch multitouch display with a resolution of 480×800 pixels
- 3.15MP rear camera with secondary VGA lens for video chat
- Android 2.2 Froyo operating system
- WiFi, Bluetooth and aGPS
- Full QWERTY keypad
The device has been confirmed for a release on April 20th and is well priced at $99 (with a 2-year tie-in) after a $50 MIR but it remains to be seen how it will fare against the likes of other Android phones like the G2X or if the Sidekick brand holds any water at all this late in the game.
