How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Precedent on Straight Talk (One-Click Method)

The Galaxy Precedent is a very affordable Android phone from Straight Talk and if you didn’t know this already the device is similar in almost all respects to the Samsung Galaxy Prevail, that is available on Boost Mobile.  We’ll show you how to root this device in this post and enjoy the benefits that rooting bestows upon the Galaxy Precedent including WiFi tethering.  Read on to know how.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  There is currently no solution to unroot the Galaxy Precedent, so make sure that you really need root before proceeding.

2.  Make sure that you have enough charge (more than 70% at the least) and back up your data before you begin in case you run into problems.

II.  Necessary Files

1.  KMS.zip [File attached to the first post on this thread].

2.  Samsung Drivers 32 Bit | 64 Bit.

III.  Rooting the Galaxy Precedent

1.  Make sure that you have installed the Samsung drivers you have downloaded above before proceeding.

2.  Enable USB Debugging on your device.  You can do this by heading to Settings > Applications > USB Debugging and checking the tickbox next to it.

3.  Connect the device to your PC.  Windows should now automatically install the necessary drivers to enable Debugging Mode for your device.

4.  Unmount the microSD card.  To do this, go to Settings > SD Card and Phone Storage, then select Unmount SD card.

5.  Extract the KMS.zip file you downloaded above to a folder on your desktop.

6.  From the extracted folder, double-click on PrevailToExistence.bat to run it.

7.  Follow the on-screen prompts and wait for the device to reboot.

8.  Once the device reboots, it should be rooted.  You’ll need to install busybox after this, which is available on Google Play.

  1. An easier way if this does not work for some would be this:

It took me about a week to get all of the correct files in order so that I could easily root my Samsung Galaxy Precedent. It was such a pain in the backside that I felt the need to share how to root the phone the easy way in under 5 minutes. I just used this technique on both my phone and my wifes phone as of 5/13/2012.

Be sure to remove your sd card before you root the phone otherwise the rooting process will delete some of your apps and other info. After you root your phone you may notice that your downloaded apps and info from the sd card is missing….this is just because you need to remount your sd card by going to (using your touchscreen) home/settings/sd card and phone storage/mount sd card.

I have uploaded the files to http://www.fileswap.com/dl/OW2

After you have downloaded the zipped file just open the “ReadMe” and follow my “revised” instructions.

I hope that this helps you to RELEASE THE POWER of your Galaxy Precedent 😉

      1. Hey about rooting the samsung galaxy precedent.. thank you very much for taking the time to show people how to do it. I do have a question though, I installed the samsung drivers on my pc and followed the instructions but Im not sure if Im doing something wrong.. Do I need to do anything with the drivers or do they just automatically convert over to my phone? Ive tried rooting several times and I get stuck at “server not running. daemon not running. daemon started successfully and then it just stops there. What am I doing wrong? Im sorry, I guess I really need some hand holding here 😛

  2. I really think i need this to gain better access to my storage on my sd card, but im a total noob and completely freaked at the idea of doing this myself

  3. you have done such a cool thing for people stuck with this piece of sh** phone. you have taken a sh**y phone and turned it into a very cool phone, Thank You so much;-)

  4. OK will this usb debugging work with Straight talk Samsung Galaxy SII. Because I’m trying to connect to Samsung Kies to get the ICS.

    1. Download link is given there in “Necessary Downloads” section. Just hit it and you’ll be taken to the Forum Thread from where you’ll get the direct download link.

  7. when i try to root it says Error: more than one device and emulator. along with Error: Device not found. help please??

    1. Actually, there’s no direct use of BusyBox. Some root-only apps do require Busybox to be installed on the device.

      Thanks!

  8. If I do this what can or will Straight Talk do? Can I use my phone as a wifi device? If I can will that cost more per month for all the data usuage?
