How To Force Android to Display the Desktop Version of a Website

So a little tip that I use on a daily basis that I thought others might find useful. Ever gone to a website and it automatically displays the mobile page, but you REALLY wanted the desktop version for whatever reason and no matter what you do you can’t get  to display the desktop version? Yeah, me too. Well, here’s a little tip to get around that.

I. Before You Begin.

1. This should work on all Android phones, please let us know if the debug options don’t show up on your device.

II. Trick the Browser

1. Go to your Browser on your phone and visit the website you want to view in desktop mode.

2. Once on the site’s mobile page, click in the url bar and type the following without any spaces, then hit the go button (as if you wanted to visit it as a website):

about:debug

3. It’ll appear as if nothing happened and you are still on the same mobile version of the website.

4. Now, click the Menu button and click Settings.

5. Then go to the very bottom and click on UA String.

6. Change the UA String to Desktop.

7. Then hit the back button to get out of the Settings and back to the website.

8. Click on the URL bar again and this time put in the website URL again (i.e. if you are on m.sitename.com or mobile.sitename.com, put sitename.com in etc.) then hit go.

9. When it loads back up it should have the desktop version of the site. Repeat this on any website that comes up mobile that you want to visit the desktop version. Enjoy!

10. (Optional) To undo this, simply refollow the steps and select Android for the UA String and reboot the phone.

  1. Didn’t work on my Captivate, it actually caused my browser to crash and now it will not restart at all so I can’t undo it.

  2. I have the opposite need.
I got galaxy Nexus and it always goes to the desktop version, even with a specific option toggled off.
In many sites i prefer the mobile version, for bandwidth saving.
    Any j idea?
