How to Root the Huawei Y6
While there’s a requirement of unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom recovery for rooting many Huawei devices, gaining root on the Huawei Y6 isn’t as cumbersome. The device can be rooted using the universal KingRoot app that can root a number of Android devices.
Once rooted, you’ll get the Chinese KingUser app on your device to manage root-permissions, and for the folks who aren’t fluent in Chinese, I’ll show you in a section below how to replace KingUser with the standard SuperSU app.
Here’s how to root your Huawei Y6 with KingRoot:
Before You Begin

- This uses the universal KingRoot method to gain root on your Huawei Y6.
- This should work for the Huawei Y6 SCL-U31.
How to Root the Huawei Y6
To root the device, you’ll download and install an app called KingRoot on your device. Here’s how you can use the app:

Rooting the Huawei Y6
- Plug in your device to your PC using a USB cable and ensure your device is able to receive files from your PC.
- Copy KingRoot APK from your desktop over to the internal SD card storage on your device.
- When KingRoot is copied, unplug your device from your PC.
- Head to Menu > Settings > Security on your device and turn on Unknown sources.
- Open File Manager and tap on KingRoot APK to install the app on your device.
- When the app’s installed, launch it from your app drawer.
- Tap on Start Root in the app to begin rooting your device.
- Wait for KingRoot to gain root access on your device.
- When the app’s done rooting your device, reboot your device.
Your Huawei Y6 should now be rooted but it has the Chinese version of the app that helps you manage root-permissions. To have it replaced with the English version, please follow the following steps.
The following section should help you replace the Chinese version of the KingUser app with the standard SuperSU that you may be familiar with if you had a rooted device before.
This should remove the KingUser, KingRoot, and other Chinese apps that the root app installed on your device.
IV. Replacing the Chinese KingUser app with SuperSU
- Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
- Copy SuperSU Me APK from your desktop over to the internal SD card storage on your device.
- When SuperSU Me APK is copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
- Ensure that Unknown sources is enabled at Menu > Settings > Security. Enable it if it isn’t already.
- Launch File Manager and tap on SuperSU Me APK to install the app on your device.
- When the app’s installed, open it from your app drawer.
- Tap on Allow when prompted to allow the app to use SU permissions.
- Tap on the big blue Android button in the center of the app screen to start the replacement process.
- It should not take too long to replace the KingUser with SuperSU.
- When it’s done replacing the apps, the SuperSU app will automatically launch.
And there you go!
KingUser was successfully replaced with SuperSU and you can see it working for yourself by downloading and installing the Root Checker app on your device.
From now on, whenever an app needs root permissions, it’ll fire-up the prompt in SuperSU for you to allow or deny SU permissions.
Now that you’re rooted, go ahead and check out all the root-only apps available and compatible with your device, and let us know if you have issues in the comments below.
not work.. sry …
(Y6 SCL-L21) -> note: > Root is unavalible .. taped on “try to root” button > at 28% failed to root ..> finish
Does anybody have a method of rooting the Y6 Elite (LYO-L02)??? No matter what I try, absolutely NOTHING works.
It wont work for almost for 90% of users with huawei y6 scl l21….it is because when u try to root with kingroot if u r lucky u might get it half root which gives half privilege, Usually it wont work because the bootloader will hinder any further rooting of the device…! If u want more info try searching about bootloader …..AND if u want to root the device very badly then search how to unlock the bootloader ! BUT unlocking BOOTLOADE is not a piece of cake ! BUT once u get it unlocked u will be able to root ur device..! Good LUCK ! PEACE OUT !
Worked with Y6 scl-l01. Had to change a few things though.
-Dont download new kingroot, go for old version. I used 4.5.0
-Unroot with kingroot, check with root checker.
-Reboot and install super sume. Link mentioned above works.
-Follow super sume instructions and bingo, no more kingroot, hello mr supersu.
IMPORTANT to remove previous kingroot installations as best as you can. i.e (uninstall from kingroot app, check in settings>app management and uninstall if found here and check in settings> protected apps. if found install malwarebytes app and scan and remove detected kingroot error)
Nope actually drop what I said above, It works at replacing kingroot with super su but looses root access in the process. If you want to root Y6 you’ll have to unlock the bootloader and go from there. Kingroot claims to root devices but i just dont trust them to keep it on any personal device. Sorry Folks
