Nokia Press Event at CTIA: Nokia Astound

Nokia has announced a new device here at a press event at CTIA in Orlando. The new device is being pitched as the device for people new to smartphones. Here are some specs:

• 8MP Camera
• 3.5″ Capacitive Screen
• Symbian OS
• Smartphone functionality at a feature phone price
• $79.99 2 Year Contract
• $10 Data plan (200mb/month)

Yes, I know what your thinking. Symbian? Ya, well considering Nokia is aiming this device at a specific market, it actually makes sense. The device is quite competitive price wise and is aimed at users that aren’t used to smartphones or aren’t ready to fork over the costs associated with smartphones ($30 data plan and a $199 and up device cost on a contract). Maybe for your parents? Children? Friends that still have a RAZR?

I have to say that having held the device, it does feel very solid in the hand (come on, it’s a Nokia after all) but check out the video above for a quick demo by the Nokia rep.
