Blackberry OS 6 and Blackberry 9800 “Torch” Revealed

So at a Manhattan press conference, RIM announced its newest handset, the Blackberry Torch (9800). The phone is a thin portrait-sliding Blackberry with their oh so famous keyboard sliding out from the bottom of the phone. This is Blackberry’s first sliding qwerty phone and also their first physical keyboard WITH a touchscreen combo. Here are the specs (and besides the new slide out form factor and touchscreen, it’s all pretty standard Blackberry):

512mbs of ROM and 512mbs of RAM
3.2 inch touchscreen with 480×360 resolution
Optical Trackpad
Slide out portrait qwerty keyboard
Media library sync over WiFi
4gbs of internal storage and a 4gb microsd card included
Blackberry 6 Operating System

The real big thing here is that along with the Torch comes Blackberry’s OS overhaul called Blackberry 6 (as opposed to Blackberry OS 6). Which is there attempt to slow their sliding market share due to Android and the iPhone. Here’s a video demo of the new OS below:

What do you guys think? Think the new OS will let Blackberry break some ground into the touchscreen market that they haven’t been able to have much luck in?

  1. Looks very bog standard – wont be jumping through hoops for this… Fed up with administering BES servers at work too, so generally not a blackberry fan at all. Can’t wait for my phone upgrade in december! Sticking with Android of course but which phone to get???
