Android 2.3.3 Brings Simple Bluetooth File Transfer Using NFC

So I’m sure when people saw the Near Field Communications feature that was added to Android 2.3 they immediately began wondering what that could be used for in everyday life. Scanning your phone to pay for gas, groceries, etc. Well, what about being able to tap another NFC capable phone in order to send a file? No passcode, no making it discoverable etc. An even simpler concept than the famous Bump app for Android and iPhones, no?

Well, Google is now adding some more functionality into the latest update, Android 2.3.3 to make that possible so go ahead and get excited. But then again, this is going to take a while to catch on considering the only phone available that has NFC built in is the Nexus S…

  1. Thankfully, NXP says the limitation is only temporary and assures us that the NFC chip inside of the Nexus S will soon support the full range of features seen in devices in regions where the technology is already popular, such as Japan
