Android App of the Day: iRunner

There’s nothing like a simple game that is highly addictive, easy to play, and feels like a cross between Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog with hint of Batman. The game with which I am referring to is iRunner, a game for Android that has players jumping, sliding, and collecting batteries to gain power ups move on to next or this case planet.

Highlights

Styling

  • The visuals for the game are great and provide a cartoon
  • Colors look good as well as character designs and levels
  • Buttons are big and easy to press.

Performance

  • It loads up pretty quick and you can jump into gameplay really fast
  • The game runs smooth (we tried it on a number of devices, both dual a single core) and we had no problems.
  • Button presses respond immediately which is important for a game like this where you have to react quickly.
  • Music and effects playback nicely.

Gameplay

  • The basic premise to make it to the end of a level without dying by avoiding obstacles and collecting as many batteries as you can. If you collect a certain amount of batteries you get a powerup which sees your character wearing a special Batman looking costume and gives you the ability to avoid certain obstacles.
  • There are only two buttons, one for jump and one for slide placed in opposite bottom corners of the phone. You can do a double jump by pressing jump twice
  • 3 game modes:
  1. Adventure – Complete various missions like collecting a certain number of green batteries or objects.
  2. Quick Play – Brings you into a game to start playing right away.
  3. Challenge – How long can you last.
  • Quick play and challenge game modes are locked until you reach a certain stage in the Adventure mode.
  • There are also achievements you can earn by collecting a certain number of points for example.

Value

  • iRunner is free to play, but does have Ads.
  • This is a worth while download that is fun, addictive, and provides high re-playability, as you try to prefect your runs.
