Could Samsung Purposely Be Withholding the 2.2 Update for Vibrant Users?

So who knows if this is true, but according to AndroidSpin and a “reliable source”, that 2.2 update from Samsung you’ve been waiting for? Well, it’s ready, but you can’t have it just yet.

AndroidSpin quotes a tipster as saying the following:

Some disturbing things have happened the last week or so concerning our “Vibrant”.  Samsung has NOT allowed us to push the update OTA for 2.2 because they feel it will decrease the value of the upcoming Vibrant4G +. While from a marketing aspect i totally understand, as the Vibrant 4G is what the original Vibrant should have been in the 1st place. But to shun off and bold face lie to customers is NOT what T-Mobile is about.

So basically, the Android 2.2 update is in the hands of T-Mobile but Samsung has forbid them to release it until AFTER the new Samsung Vibrant 4G is released for fear that if they both have 2.2 on them, there won’t be a big difference between the old and new Vibrant and less people will buy the new one.

What do you guys think? Would you put it past a huge company to sacrifice current customers experience for the bottom line? Ya, me neither.

  1. Thats a load of bull. It should always be customers first. Sure, I understand they’re trying to make revenue from this, but lying to your customers will only lose them. Doesn’t that make you lose money?

  2. I would think that they would release 2.2 on the Vibrant as soon as possible so that it stays in the market longer with 2.2 and then 6 months or so down the line they the Vibrant with 2.2 would be considered old as they release the new Vibrant with at least 2.3 on it.

  4. I hope they dont do this, I like my samsung vibrant, but if they pull this stunt I will sell my vibrant for an htc or something other than samsung. I hope they do the right thing.

  8. Am I surprised? – Hardly. But it sure does make me angry. How come that these global players always care for numbers more than for making their (current) customers feel satisfied – offering stable, proper upgrades in a timely manner is a must IMO! No wonder, users start rooting + flashing their mobile devices – BTW, I wonder if there isn’t a 2.2 flash available on xda … / P.S. I guess I should be thankful that I have a SGS where the next generation release is not planned until second half of this year, at least they “let me have” the Froxo upgrade!

  10. tmobile has lied to our faces about them having an actual 4g network in the first place, so what makes you think that theyre gonna be nice enough to put out a 2.2 upgrade for our vibrants.
at least thats what an ex t-mobile rep told me.

  11. alex your friend is a dipshit. It is the fastest data network out there. Bottom line is that it was only refered to as 4g because the common idiot has no idea what HSPA+ is. T-Mobile does seem to drop the ball when it comes to upgradeing their android phones. Can we say the cliq that is still in dinosaur 1.5 then they come out with the Cliq 2 and expecting people to by it. Come on
