Gmail app for iOS quietly disappears from the App Store
Those who had downloaded the native Gmail iOS app in the hopes of finally experiencing Gmail like it is on Android must have been sorely disappointed to find a buggy, web-based version of the app being released yesterday. That’s a very good reason for pulling an app out and Google has done just that, but with the intention of fixing a push notification bug, leaving iOS users to continue waiting for something better this time.
Users who have tried the app are reporting what is basically an app that is reduced to a bookmark, with features that can be accessed via the mobile browser version already. To spoil things further, the app has to be reloaded multiple times to actually get it to work and any email with picture attachments will involve a lot of scrolling, since the app doesn’t resize the pictures automatically to fit the small screen.
May be Google will do a better job the next time it releases the app and we hope that will be sooner than later.
