How To: Create A Continuous Wallpaper on The Nokia N900
Not satisfied with the wallpapers that come on the phone? Don’t want a separate image for each of the homescreens? No problem.
I. Find an Image and Resize It
1. First you will need to find the image you want to use. The best way to find an image that will fit is to Google Image search for the word panoramic and select Show Options then select Larger Than 8MP (you can also add another keyword to get an equirectangular image related to what you want to have as a background, like “Paris panoramic” and see what comes up).
Make sure to get an image that is LARGER than 3200 x 480 for best picture quality.
2. Now we need to resize the image to 3200 x 480 pixels. Easiest way to do this is using the online program called Picnik at Picnik.com/app. Click on Upload a Photo and upload the equirectangular image then click Edit > Resize and uncheck Keep Proportions and then change the pixels to 3200 x 480 and click on Save/Share and save it as a .jpg
II. Convert the Image to an Image Set
1. You must do the How To Get More Apps on Your N900 procedure then come back to this procedure.
1. Download the Wallpaper Creator app by searching for “wallpapercreator” once you have installed all of the repositories from the How To Get More Apps procedure (wallpapercreator is located in the Maemo Devel repository).
2. Open the app and click Select. Navigate to the folder on your N900’s internal memory where you saved the image after it was resized to 3200×480. Select it.
3. After it loads the image into the application (be patient this can take a while) then click Crop Image and then Click Install to save it as an Image Set in the appropriate folder.
III. Set Your New Background
1. Once the files are on the N900 goto the desktop and click on the background to get the settings button to come up. Click on the settings button when it comes up.
2. Click change background and then select your Image Set you created.
3. Enjoy!
Sweet! I’ll do one once I get mine xd
wallpapercreator app not in beta or dev list!
Great video!! I wonder, however if after creating a loopable wallpaper set, is it ok to delete the original 3200×480 file to save space?
Guy,
Thanks!
Yes you can delete the original file no problem.
is very usefull your page on the youtube, thanks! I’ve seen your video of “How To – Create a Background for the Nokia N900” and I’ve one question, where can I find a wallpaper creator for downloading on my N900???
Federico,
It is in the repositories. You need to do the How To Get More Apps on the N900 procedure first, then come back to this.
Magic, worked a treat. Cheers
Really works like a charm.. BUT how do I remove a faulty one?
