How to Enable Animated Gifs in the Photos App (Video)

Oh, gifs. What would the internet be without you? Showing us how someone epic-ly failed over and over, or how a squirrel has better acting chops than the entire cast of certain movies; they’re just an inherent part of the web like social networks and cats.

So when you download one for offline entertainment on your iPhone and it doesn’t move when you view it? It can be a sad affair.

Luckily, the GifViewer tweak available on the Cydia store can solve this crucial dilemma for you with a quick install and no settings needed to adjust. Just download and watch them move.

Here how to get animated gifs on your iPhone in the stock Photos app:

I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad

1. To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our How to Jailbreak iOS 7.1.2 (the latest version at the time of writing this). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.

II. Install GifViewer

1. Open Cydia.

2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.

3. Type in GifViewer.

4. Tap on GifViewer when it shows up.

5. Tap Purchase at the top right and follow the prompts to login and purchase using your preferred method.

6. Tap Close when you’ve paid.

7. Tap Install where Purchase used to be.

8. Tap Restart.

III. Use GifViewer

1. No settings required. Simply head to the Photos app and view an otherwise motionless gif and watch it move.
