How to Install Custom Recovery on the Micromax Canvas HD (A116)
The Canvas HD is a low-priced high-featured device that is more popular in India and has gotten pretty good reviews for its 5-inch IPS display, quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and other features. Rooting this device definitely has its benefits but before doing so, you’ll need to install a custom recovery to actually root the device. The guide below should take care of that and you will be rooting it in no time!
I. Before You Begin
1. Back up everything you feel is important.
2. Charge your device to 75% or more before you begin.
3. Install the necessary drivers before you actually begin the rooting process. This will prevent any unwanted breaks while actually rooting. Use these drivers if you haven’t already installed them.
II. Necessary Downloads
1. MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt
2. recovery.img
3. SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1248.0.96.zip
III. Installing Custom Recovery on the Micromax Canvas HD
1. Power down your device and disconnect it from your PC.
2. Extract SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1248.0.96.zip to a folder on your desktop.
3. From the extracted folder, run Flash_tool.exe.
4. Click on Scatter-loading, browse to the location of MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt and load it on to Flash Tool.
5. Make sure that only RECOVERY is checked and click on it to browse to the location of recovery.img and load it on to Flash Tool.
6. Remove the battery from your device and connect it your PC via your microUSB cable.
7. Click on the Download button in the Flash Tool application and Yes on the warning message to start the flashing procedure. If your device isn’t recognized by the application, disconnect the micro-USB end of the cable from your device and reconnect it again. If that doesn’t work too, install the proper drivers before trying again.
8. Once you see the Flash Tool display a green circle, unplug from the PC and put the battery back into the device.
You now have a custom CWM-based recovery which can be used to flash unofficial zip files! To access it, power down your device, hold the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons until you see the screen prompting you to press Volume Up for recovery.

i cannot root my phone
in flash tool it doesnt detect my phone…i have the necessary drivers… i even tried changing the usb and comp but still no luck
my comp is 64bit Win 7 and 64 bit Win 8
PLEASE help me out !!! i need to root my phone!

I am getting platform not matched error while doing this procedure.. please help me to root my A116
get sp flashtool v3.1304 & repeat the process. It should work fine
the flash tool does not detect my phone.please tell me what to do
settings—- developer options—-tick usb de-bugging. Connect phone in media device(MTP) mode. Use flash tool v 3.1304. Phone gets Recognised.
still it is showing the same prob
All the Windows 8 computers have this detection issues. The App doesn’t recognize the phone even though all the drivers are installed.
I have a issue of error 8200 in so flash tool I m using windows 7 and all drivers a installed … sp tool detecs my cell but give error with red line …. plzz help
use the latest version of SP tools it works as stated above!
